Lord of the Board Backgammon
Published on April 26, 2026
One of the most popular backgammon games since 2016 is Lord of the Board. The game is available for iOS (iPad and iPhone), Android, and as a web browser game on Facebook. You can play against other players, against friends, and it’s also common to play against bots with a similar playing strength to your own.
What makes Lord of the Board Backgammon stand out?
Lord of the Board is suitable for players of all skill levels and stands out not only for its excellent game logic and smooth gameplay, but also for its additional gamification features.
If you don’t have a backgammon opponent to play without a computer, smartphone, or tablet, this game is ideal, since there are suitable players from around the world available at almost any time. Lord of the Board’s servers automatically match you with a suitable player.
In the backgammon lobby, you can choose different types of backgammon games based on the stake. There are also tournaments, such as “Best of 4” or “Best of 8,” where you can collect virtual trophies. Depending on your skill and the number of games won, your game level rises; certain games are only playable once you’ve reached a certain level.
Lord of the Board makes the playing boards varied, but classic boards are also available. At the top, the remaining time for each roll is shown, and you always have an overview of your chances and the current pip count needed to bear off your checkers. This is especially helpful for using the doubling cube skillfully. New players can’t use the doubling cube right away – it only becomes available after a few games, to avoid overwhelming beginners.
Can you play LOTB Backgammon against friends?
You can also play the game against friends once you connect it to your Facebook account. Your friends list is then imported, and you can choose which friend to play against. There’s also a Lord of the Board ranking showing the best players among your friends, within your country, or globally.
If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can of course still play the popular game with other people, who are then randomly matched based on playing strength and the selected game. Once you’ve found an opponent you get along with well, you can play them more often, for example by requesting a rematch after a previous game.
How does playing for money work with Lord of the Board?
One of the biggest factors that makes the game so fascinating and interesting is playing backgammon for money. This is also one of the game elements that defines Lord of the Board, since you can play for various amounts of money within the game. This initially involves play money – coins you receive during the game – though it’s also possible to buy additional coins with real money to use as stakes. However, there’s currently no option to cash out coins.
In Lord of the Board, you occasionally receive free play money that you can use as a stake. If you play skillfully, you can of course top up your own play money account by winning. From a certain level onward, it’s also possible to use the doubling cube, multiplying the original stake.
It’s not possible to have a negative play money balance, so you can only wager up to the amount of money available.
What are levels in Lord of the Board and how do they work?
One of the game elements used in Lord of the Board is the game level. This is independent of your coin balance and is based on the number of games played and which moves you made in which situations. The level starts at 1 and rises over time. “Leveling up” also unlocks further features within the game, such as the ability to participate in backgammon tournaments or use the doubling cube. The higher your game level, the higher the stakes you can play for – provided you have a sufficiently funded play money account.
Where can you play Lord of the Board Backgammon?
The backgammon game is available as an Android and iOS app in the respective app stores, and can also be played in a web browser via the Facebook platform. One of the big advantages of the app on your phone is synchronization, so the game runs smoothly and reliably, and you as a player don’t have to wait for the dice to be rolled.
