2. Server log files

When you access this website, our hosting provider automatically collects information that your browser transmits (including IP address, date and time of the request, browser type, operating system used, page requested). This data is used for the technical provision of the website and is not combined with other data sources.

3. Web analytics with Matomo

This website uses the open-source web analytics service Matomo, which is operated on our own server in connection with the operation of this website. No data is shared with third parties.

Matomo is deliberately configured to collect as little data as possible:

No cookies are set (cookieless tracking).
Your IP address is anonymized before being stored.
Detection of browser characteristics (such as installed plugins or screen resolution) is disabled.
A “Do Not Track” signal sent by your browser is respected — if enabled, no data is collected at all.

Because no cookies are used and the data collected is anonymized, this analytics setup does not require consent via a cookie banner.

On some pages, we offer the option to sign up for our free backgammon tips newsletter. We use the service Campaign Monitor (Campaign Monitor Pty Ltd, Australia) to send it.

The email address you provide when signing up is transmitted to and stored by Campaign Monitor so that we can send you the newsletter. Signup uses a double opt-in process: after signing up, you receive an email with a confirmation link, and you are only added to the list once you confirm it. This ensures that no one can be signed up for the newsletter without their knowledge.

You can withdraw your consent to receive the newsletter at any time, either via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every newsletter email or by contacting us at the address given above.

5. Affiliate links

This website contains affiliate links (including to Amazon, Awin partner programs, Etsy and ShareASale), which are routed through our own /linkto/ redirect system. Clicking such a link takes you to a third-party website. If a purchase or contract is completed there, we may receive a commission. This does not result in any additional cost to you. Clicks on these links are recorded anonymously via Matomo as an event (which link was clicked, and how often) so we can evaluate the use of these links internally.

The third-party provider’s own privacy policy applies on their respective website.

6. Embedded game

The /game/ page embeds a licensed HTML5 backgammon game. Simply using the game does not collect any data beyond the server log files described in section 2.
